, Today we talk about MRE!
Here we are again in a new episode of GeoStru Tips&Tricks, the series where we point out features and functionalities of GeoStru software that you most probably don't know about. When performing a slope stability analysis using the well-known Geostru Slope stability analysis – Slope, as you know, you have the option to place a slope intervention of your choice between: Retaining walls, Piles, Tie rods and Reinforced earth. Selecting the last one will open the Reinforced Earth - MRE module. We're talking about a module, yes, but we can safely call MRE a separate software, and I'll explain why below.

| |
MRE is a free software included in Slope
I hope you are aware, either if you already have Slope installed on your PC or if you intend to purchase it, that unlike other software products you have included the totally free MRE reinforced and reinforced soil design and verification programme. The latter, as we shall see, allows for the design and verification of reinforced earth, which can be used as an intervention work in the stability analysis of the slope under study

How to Start MRE
| |
In Slope, in the menu 'Tests-Loads-Works of Intervention', simply click on ‘Works of Intervention', the side window with the same name on the right will be activated, and from there clicking on the text 'Reinforced Earth' will start MRE. Did you know? You can also start MRE by pressing CTRL+E in Slope.

Defining seismic data, geometry, water table, loads and soil properties
Once started, it is possible to define: Standards, reinforced earth geometry, loads and geotechnical parameters for the material.
| |
Natural engineering works
| |
With the latest Slope update, in MRE it is possible to define natural engineered works such as double wooden piles. It is necessary to define in the archive of reinforcement types the type "Bar", the wood material and assign the material properties.

Calculations and verifications
| |
In its output, the software will give comprehensive results such as: - The face length, the fold length, the wedge length, the effective length and the total length of the individual reinforcement;
- The factor of safety for pull-out;
- The tension in the reinforcement;
- The safety factor for failure;
- The thrust on the reinforcement;
- The resistance to pull-out;
- The ultimate strength of the material.
