eGeoCompass is an application that turns a mobile device based on Android operating system into a digital compass for geology.<\/p>\n
eGeoCompass can be used to measure the orientation of geological surfaces such as soil surface, faults and fractures.<\/p>\n
The application uses three sensors commonly available in all the smartphone equipped with Android operating system: the GPS, accelerometer and compass. Collected data can be: The application allows to obtain a measurement in less than 5 seconds without requiring the use of other tools than the device itself. This means that the sampling times are drastically reduced and is totally avoided the error in the transcription of the values acquired through analog compasses. eGeoCompass is an application for Android mobile devices with the following features:
\nThrough the acquisition of dynamic data collected from these three tools built into the the mobile device, the software calculates in real time: –\u00a0<\/span>Immersion<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>–\u00a0<\/span>Inclination<\/span>–\u00a0<\/span>Latitude<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Longitude<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Altitude<\/span>.
\nThese values are captured as measurements atthe user’s request and are stored in an integrated database in the program.<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Plotted as joints on a map based on satellite imagery from Google Maps
