eGeoCompass – geological compass on your Android device

eGeoCompass is an application for Android mobile devices with the following features:
• Android operating system, version 1.5 or higher
• Processor: 528MHz optimal
• Sensors: GPS antenna, accelerometer, compass
• Display: minimum QVGA (240×320 pixels) – optimal HVGA (320x 480 pixels)
• SD card (required only for data export )

Note:  eGeoCompass is fully compatible not only with the latest devices, but even with all those products made since the beginning of 2009. This reduces the resources necessary to purchase the device on which to operate the software. The high level of integration between the operating system and hardware has indeed given the presence of ALL the sensors necessary for the operation of the product from the earliest models of smart phones with Android operating system.

To check the compatibility  simply download and install the software.

Data exported by eGeoCompass can be automatically imported in GMS software. GMS software is included in the Rockmechanics suite for the representation of geomechanical surveys.

Descriere

eGeoCompass is an application that turns a mobile device based on Android operating system into a digital compass for geology.

eGeoCompass can be used to measure the orientation of geological surfaces such as soil surface, faults and fractures.

The application uses three sensors commonly available in all the smartphone equipped with Android operating system: the GPS, accelerometer and compass.
Through the acquisition of dynamic data collected from these three tools built into the the mobile device, the software calculates in real time: – Immersion  Inclination Latitude, Longitude and Altitude.
These values are captured as measurements atthe user’s request and are stored in an integrated database in the program.

Collected data can be:
• Shown as a list of measurements and individually enriched with specific notes
• Plotted as joints on a map based on satellite imagery from Google Maps
• Exported in CSV (Comma Separated Values) format, having also the possiblity to deleted by the user

The application allows to obtain a measurement in less than 5 seconds without requiring the use of other tools than the device itself. This means that the sampling times are drastically reduced and is totally avoided the error in the transcription of the values acquired through analog compasses.
The result is a general optimization of the exploration and survey phases obtained through the native digitization of the data collection process.
