MDC is a software for the design and analysis of retaining walls in: reinforced concrete, gravity, block, gabions walls, with direct or pile foundations and with anchors.

The geotechnical computation employs the standard geotechnical methods subject to user choice and carries out the verifications prescribed by the selected standard, amongst which global stability even in seismic conditions. Structural evaluations perform reinforcement sizing and verification with Ultimate Limit State or Allowable Tensions.

MDC is simple and intuitive but with unique features, including pre-design work, easy management of the combinations: GEO, STR, GLOBAL STABILITY, localization and automatic import of seismic parameters, displacements analysis in a dynamic field, reinforcements editor, import and export of works that should fall in stabilization operations.

Description

Software for the design and analysis of retaining walls in: reinforced concrete, gravity, gabions, blocks with direct foundation or on piles, possibly supported by tie rods. Thanks to the various options available, the program allows you to deal with reinforced concrete, gravity, block and gabion walls:

    • Reinforced concrete walls;
    • Gravity walls;
    • Gabion Walls;
    • Block Walls;
    • Walls supported on piles or mini piles;
    • Walls with tiebacks/anchors;
    • Walls with a shelf on the uphill side;
    • Footing keys;
    • The stepped wall on the uphill side;
    • Tapered profile (stem and footing) on both sides;
    • Forces acting on the wall: FX, FY, MZ on n points;
    • Layered terrain;
    • Backfill;
    • Loads on backfill;
    • Inclined terrain on uphill and downhill sides;
    • Groundwater or confined water layers;
    • Drainage insertion on the uphill side;
    • Fixed head walls;
    • Stress diagrams;
    • Global stability analysis using several methods: Fellenius, Bishop, Janbu, Bell,
    • Sarma, Morgenstern & Price, D.E.M., Zeng Liang.

Supported computation standards:

    • Eurocode 7/8
    • NTC
    • STAS
    • British Codes BS8004/BS8110
    • SR EN 1997-1 Anexa RO / EC2: SR EN 1992-1-1 / Normativul pentru proiectarea lucrarilor de sustinere (Anexa A)

The unique feature of this software is the simplicity with which you can manage various combinations of loads summarizing in a single phase, both load conditions and computation.

STRATIGRAPHY

Simple layer declaration allows any layers to be modelled on uphill and downhill sides of the wall with individual inclinations. Mouse click and drag allow layer boundaries to be moved or inclined. Each layer is assigned the geotechnical parameters required for computation, and each may be associated with a colour and/or texture. An internal soil database, expandable and amendable by the user, simplifies these choices.

COMPUTATION

The user can choose one of the following methods for the computation of thrust: Coulomb, Rankine or Mononobe & Okabe. It is also possible to perform the calculation considering the thrust at rest and, for the elements subject to passive jab, to impose the percentage of mobilized thrust. The structural computation and analysis can be performed, at the user’s choice, with the Limit States or Allowable Tensions methods.

  • Changes in Hansen algorithm Export file for GFAS
  • Improved calculation structural algorithm
  • Optimization of calculation algorithm of the reinforcement for walls with stepped sections. For walls founded on piles, introduced a symbol for the check condition to limit vertical load.
  • Integrations on forces diagrams.
  • Modified the pressure diagrams. Integration on bearing capacity. Integration on computation report. Integration on global stability module's statement.
  • Implemented Hansen's method for the computation of bearing resistance.
  • Executed a new command for the advanced management of the vertices' coordinates of the wall section. Using this command will be possible to model many other types of walls. From the new command "Forces" can be seen the overturning and stabilizing actions on the border.
  • Revision of the diagrams of the increase in thrust due to the earthquake.
  • Wall section that protrudes from the ground, as for the fences. Enter the negative height for the barrier.
  • Application of loads at different sizes from the ground level.
  • Importing files from static and dynamic penetration tests. The files can be imported with direct commands or simple drag-and-drop operations on the workspace.
  • The files generated by our programs are open to editing with a text editor.
  • The import of penetration tests is a handy tool because dozens of geotechnical parameters are automatically converted regarding units of measurement.
  • By assigning a negative height to the dam is possible to lower the ground surface level behind the wall.
  • Complete review of the software in national and international versions.
  • Improvements in materials printing.
  • A new version is available.
  • Computation report integrated.
  • Progress on the editor of the computation report.

  8. Francesco A.
